Shirley Tornados v Hythe and Dibden

So a very early start for the tornados with a 9am kick off on a wet and windy day. First half We unfortunately started slowly, you could tell Hythe we're used to the early morning starts....we were 2nd to the ball and we didn't react to the Hythe pressure well. Hythe broke the deadlock with a really good strike over the top of Kira nothing at all to be done about that. As the half went on we grew stronger with some really good wing play and some balls delivered in but unfortunately we couldn't finish them off. Then towards the end of the first half Jack was in the box and was brought down having his standing leg swiped from under him....ref dismisses appeal for a penalty the score at half time 1-0 2nd half This half we were making strides into the game a few more opportunities from Ruby, layton, Jack and Jayden all being saved or narrowly missed. Big talking point again early on was Ruby being fouled and brought down in the box for the ref again to wave away appeals. Hythe started to pile back on the pressure and scored with a weaving run through our defense for 2 nil they then had the better of the next 15 mins as we dropped our heads and let them play on us. 10 mins to go we finally was awarded a penalty, probably in my opinion the weakest of the three shouts.....layton stepped up to the pen and put it away top of the net with a lovely strike 2-1.....what could the tornados do now. Well we went 2 at the back put 3 up top and archie in the middle. We started to attack Hythe from every angle which they couldn't keep up with and gave up a free kick with 3 mins left. Layton full of confidence from his penalty stepped up to take it and JWP style excellently sent the ball into the back of the net 2-2. We managed to speak to the kids just before the finish to ensure the went back to defense and see out the last 3 mins. Summary: I think it's fair to say we were not at the races today, we were off the pace and struggled to match Hythes energy levels. That being said the game could have gone our way had the game been reffed fairly, but like someone said this weekend we need to be able to take the game out of the refs hands. We need to find our fire and desire to win the ball and to battle for the game, we need to communicate better on the pitch and demonstrate how good we can play football. Layton - managers player Of the match

Farahad - Kingers player of the match

Layton- parents player of the match

Well done 👏 We move on to our next game, just 6 league games to go with 3 of them being against teams that were above us this weekend so it's now all to play for. Let's get back to winning ways this weekend Tornados 🌪 💪 🙌
